Sameera Fazili is first to address White House press briefing in Hijab

Washington: In a welcome change that defies the dark days of the Trump era, Sameera Fazili, the Indo-American in Joe Biden, attended the White House press briefing on Wednesday wearing the hijab – the Muslim veil used to cover the head.

Joe Biden had appointed Sameera, originally from Indian Kashmir, as deputy director of the National Economic Council of the White House.

Samiri Fazili worked as the Director of Engagement for Community and Economic Development at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta before joining the Biden team.

However, the White House press briefing on Wednesday sent a positive signal among American Muslims who experienced four years of alienation when Donald Trump was President of the United States.
