Remembrance Sunday 2022 – Inverclyde Council

SERVICES will be held in towns and villages across Inverclyde on Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

Traditional commemorations will take place in Greenock, Port Glasgow, Gourock, Kilmacolm, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay.

Religious services will be held before the laying of wreaths at the cenotaphs and war memorials on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

There will be representatives from Inverclyde Council, the Armed Forces and local organizations at the various Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Provost Drew McKenzie, who will attend the commemorations at Wellpark and Lyle Hill, said: ‘It is an extremely important time of year to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to commemorate during both world wars and conflicts who followed.

“The names on the war memorials in our cities and towns represent the life of a member of our community who was lost in battle.

“Many others have suffered serious life-altering injuries in various conflicts and we remember their sacrifices as well.

“On Remembrance Sunday, we come together across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community of Great Britain and the Commonwealth and to honor those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and our way of life.

After the service in Greenock, Lyle Hill will take center stage with a service around 1.30pm to commemorate the Free French Navy personnel who were stationed in Greenock during the Second World War.

The Free French Memorial on Lyle Hill is currently lit up in red in support of the Armed Forces charity Poppyscotland.

There will be a two-minute nationwide silence on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 11 a.m. to mark Armistice Day.
