Remembrance Sunday 2021 – Inverclyde Council
SERVICES will take place in the towns and villages of Inverclyde on Remembrance Sunday.
Details of this year’s commemorations on November 14 have been announced by the Council of Inverclyde.
There will be traditional services to Greenock, Port Glasgow, Gourock, Kilmacolm, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay.
Many were canceled or drastically reduced last year due to coronavirus restrictions.
While there are still differences from previous years due to various factors, this is a return to a much more normal Remembrance Sunday program.
Marshal Martin Brennan said, “I know that many people in Inverclyde will be delighted with the return of the remembrance services we are more accustomed to after last year’s disruption.
“While the sacrifices of those who fought and continue to fight for our freedoms will not and will not be forgotten, the ability to safely assemble in public is an important way for us to honor collectively and individually those who paid the ultimate price.
“Another way we remember is to wear the poppy and this year’s commemorations coincide with the centenary of the flower which is used not only as a symbol of remembrance but also of hope for a peaceful future and I, as so others, I will wear mines to reflect this.
Following the service at Greenock, Lyle Hill will be at the center with a service around 1:45 p.m. to commemorate the personnel of the Free French Navy who were stationed at Greenock during WWII.
The Free France Memorial on Lyle Hill is currently illuminated in red in support of Armed Forces charity Poppyscotland.
Anyone wishing to attend any of the field services is requested to leave space around the cenotaph and respect the personal safety and space of those around them by maintaining a distance from others and wearing a cover. -face if he deems it appropriate.
Face coverings must be worn for services that take place indoors.
