Indian American Muslim Council refutes Indian government’s ‘false claims’ of terrorism links
In 20 years of existence as a bona fide non-profit organization in the United States, no US law enforcement agency has ever remotely suggested that ADRIC is linked to terrorism, directly or indirectly. No law enforcement agency in the United States has ever investigated ADRIC.
It is dishonest and pitiful that Minister Naqvi referred to Tripura Police FIR naming, among other things, ADMI in regards to anti-Muslim violence in Tripura in October. In an indication of what the eventual fate of this absurd and malicious FIR might be, the Supreme Court of India has already granted relief to two Supreme Court lawyers and a journalist who are also named in the same FIR in more from ADRIC.
When Tripura Police attempted to pressure Twitter to provide them with details of the usernames targeted in this FIR, the Supreme Court again stepped in and ordered an end to this illegal and criminal act of policing.
Last weekend, Tripura Police filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court of India making fraudulent claims about IAMC based on a website named Disinfolab. We are aware that the Tripura Police are referring to www.thedisinfolab.org, which has emerged in recent months as a fake news factory connected to the Hindutva universe of disinformation.
This website provides absolutely no information regarding the name of any registered entity that owns it; no registered address or office address; no names for directors or editors or any other officials; no author name of his reports. It is unbelievable that Tripura Police actually offer such shady websites as evidence against us in court.
The real reason why Prime Minister Modi is deeply troubled by ADMI is that even though his authoritarian regime is committing widespread human rights abuses against Indian Muslims, imprisoning and killing thousands of them, it does not cannot touch ADRIC because we are based in the United States where we pride ourselves on the rule of law and are protected from abusive acts of the state. Modi and his extremist cronies cannot silence the ADMI. Their Islamophobia informs neither the American state nor its people.
An overwhelming number of US Senators and Congressmen support our program to protect India’s pluralistic Constitution and denounce Modi’s virulent anti-democratic behavior. American civil society ranging from Black Lives Matter to Amnesty International, from Genocide Watch to Human Rights Watch, is fully committed to supporting us.
The ADMI will continue to shed even more light on the egregious behavior of Prime Minister Modi’s government, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and their network of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal terrorists.
We are committed to protecting a constitutional, secular, pluralistic and democratic India, as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad and BR Ambedkar. India belongs to all Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Dalits and others alike.”
