Here’s what the Dartmouth Council on Aging has planned for September

September is here and the Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full program of events/activities.

Here’s what to expect this month:

Senior Supper Club
On Tuesday, September 6, from 4 to 6 p.m., the COA will be hosting a Seniors Club Dinner. The cost is $5.

Outdoor painting at Apponagansett Beach
On Wednesdays 7 and 14 September, the ACO will organize an outdoor painting excursion in Padanaram. The cost is $30, paid in advance.

On Friday, September 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., celebrate the end of summer with a COA Beach Day at Jones Park. Registration required.

Emotional eating
On Wednesday, September 14 at 10:15 a.m., learn how to break your mood-food cycle with a workshop at the Maria Connor Center. The course is free and walk-ins are welcome.

Japanese Sumie Painting
On Monday, September 19 at 10 a.m., local artist Jane Bregoli will give an introductory course in the art of Japanese Sumie painting. All materials are provided. The cost is $12 and pre-registration is required.

Why so famous?
On Tuesday, September 20 at 2:30 p.m., Jill Sanford will give a presentation exploring the question of why certain works of art have become as famous as they are. The presentation is free and registration is compulsory.

On Tuesdays from 1:15-2 p.m. starting September 13, Jane Hoffman will teach a gentle yoga dance class suitable for all ability levels. The cost is $5 and walk-ins are welcome.

Meditation with Lynda
Tuesdays at 10.15 a.m. Reception without appointment. The courses are free.

Chair massage with Linda
Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $2. Sessions available by appointment.

Music with friends
Tuesdays at 1 p.m., join this informal group to share songs, sounds and stories. Welcome without appointment.

Support group for caregivers
On the first Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., join Littoral, in partnership with the DCOA, for a monthly support group. Welcome without appointment.

YWCA Widowed Program
On the first and third Thursday of the month, the COA will hold sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome.

Elder law consultations
The second Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., make an appointment to speak with attorney Brandon Walecka.

Free legal consultation with Justice Bridge
On the last Wednesday of the month from 2-3 p.m., make an appointment to speak with an attorney, available through UMass Law.

Hearing assessments and hearing aid checks
On the third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon, the center will hold a hearing clinic with At Home Healthcare. Call the center to make an appointment.

Blood pressure clinic
On the last Tuesday of the month, from 10-11 a.m., come to the COA for a blood pressure clinic. Welcome without appointment.

Free pain consultations
On the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1 p.m., the ACO will be holding free pain consultations with Baystate Physical Therapy. Call ahead to make an appointment.

pound by pound
Wednesdays from 10:15-11 a.m., visit the COA for a weight loss support group that includes weigh-ins and education. Welcome without appointment.

coffee time
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

three-band country
On the first and third Wednesday of the month from 1:30-3:30 p.m., come see the Country Three Band for live music and dancing. The cost is $4. Welcome without appointment.

Osteo exercise
On Mondays at 10:15 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m., try a primarily seated exercise routine designed to stimulate bone growth. Weights provided. The course is free and walk-ins are welcome.

gentle yoga
Fridays from 10-11 a.m. and Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Jane Hoffman will be teaching gentle yoga. The cost is $5 per class.

Strength and Flexibility with Larry
Mondays and Thursdays from 9-10am, try a full body workout with weights, suitable for all levels. The cost is $2.

Resistance Bands with Larry
Wednesdays at 1 p.m. The bands are gentle on the joints, versatile and can be modified for all levels. This group class will include a stretching and balance component. Bands provided. The cost is $2. Welcome without appointment.

Zumba Gold
On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., the COA will host the popular dance aerobics class. The cost is $7.

Cam’s body awareness and adaptability
Wednesdays 9:30-10:15 a.m. and Fridays 11:15 a.m.-12 noon, eliminate fall hazards and learn body mechanics and movement through exercise. The cost is $2 and walk-ins are welcome.

Reading Club
On Monday, September 6 at 1 p.m., join the book club for a discussion on the book of the month. September’s book is “Fly Girl” by Ann Hood. For more information call the center.

tai chi
Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost of 8 weeks of sessions is $30.

Dance for Parkinson’s disease
On Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., participants are empowered to explore movement and music. Welcome without appointment. Free.

Knit and sew for charity
On Thursdays, put your textile skills to work for a good cause. Knitting is at 9:00 a.m. and sewing is at 10:00 a.m.

Mah Jongg
Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Billiard lessons
Mondays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Limit of four players per class. Please call the Center to reserve your place.

French conversation and culture
Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
